Melons are produced year-round in Australia. The largest production base is seedless watermelons, orange-fleshed netted cantaloupes (rockmelons) and green-fleshed honeydew melon. Other speciality melons such as Piel de Sapo (Spanish melons); yellow-skinned Candy melons and yellow fleshed seedless watermelon are also produced.
Export is a strong focus of the Australian melon with fruit consigned by sea and air freight to many markets including Japan, New Zealand, the Middle East and a range of Asian markets.
